The first two chapters review the core themes that run through most multivariate methods. The author shows how understanding multivariate methods is much more achievable when we notice the themes that underlie these statistical techniques. This multiple level approach also provides greater reliability and validity in our research. After providing insight into the core themes, the author illustrates them as they apply to the most popular multivariate methods used in the social, and behavioral sciences. First, two intermediate methods are explored – multiple regression and analysis of covariance. Next the multivariate grouping variable methods of multivariate analysis of variance, discriminant function analysis, and logistic regression are explored. Next the themes are applied to multivariate modeling methods including multilevel modeling, path analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and latent variable models that include exploratory structural methods of principal component and factor analysis. The book concludes with a summary of the common themes and how they pertain to each method discussed in this book.

As a student, I find this book to provide easy ways to absorb the material and is very lightweight making it easy to transport in your bag. Some of my other multivariate books have been larger hardbound books which often stayed out the house to avoid backstrain.

About the Author

Michael Patrick Cullinane is senior lecturer of U.S. history at Northumbria University, UK and a specialist in presidential statecraft, presidential legacies, and transatlantic relations. He is the author of Liberty and American Anti-Imperialism, 1898-1909 (2012) which examines the anti-imperialist movement during the "great debate" in U.S. foreign policy over imperial expansion. Cullinane has also published several articles and chapters on the politics and legacy of Theodore Roosevelt. He is currently working on a lengthier monograph investigating Roosevelt’s posthumous image over a century of memorialization.

Clare Frances Elliott is lecturer in nineteenth-century literature at Northumbria University, UK. Her research interests are in transatlantic literary studies and she is currently editing The Companion to Atlantic Literary Studies for Edinburgh University Press with Leslie Eckel and Andrew Taylor and completing a monograph, Atlantic Blake: Transnational Romanticism. Elliott has edited, with Andrew Hook, Francis Jeffrey’s American Journal (Glasgow: Humming Earth Press, 2011) and is the author of several articles on Francis Jeffrey, William Blake, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walt Whitman. She serves on the executive committee for the Transatlantic Studies Association.

Joseph Turow is Robert Lewis Shayon Professor of Communication at the University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication. This bad review is not about the book itself, just specifically the kindle edition. The kindle version of this book is full of typos. For every page there is at least one misspelled word. Words like "avid" are spelled "avoid" instead and even basic words like "the" were missing letter. I can't tell you how annoying it is to keep trying to figure out why they are saying "he" or "te". It took a lot of time for me to decipher a lot of passages because of the misspelled words. In addition to driving the grammar nazi in me crazy, some of the sections were so jumbled I couldn't even read them. I had to skip large sections of the book because it was impossible to figure out where one sentence ended and the next began. There were times when I had to skip three or four pages just to pick up a sentence but half the time I didn't have the patience to keep searching. Without a doubt this is the absolute worst kindle version of any book I have ever bought. The book itself is very helpful and well written but whoever edited this book made it unreadable.

Rented the kindle version for a class I'm currently taking. Contrary to the other comment, I have only found a few typos and none of which caused any confusion while reading the chapters (you can always report content error) so don't let that discourage you. The book is well structured and is pretty interesting. Happy reads, all! :)

I know that buying a used item should not have so much expectations on the quality. And the book is truly the same as the description which there is no words or highlight in the books. Yet, the back of the book has clearly been wet and there are even molds in some of the pages.

I hunger a book like this but this baby is WAY WAY overpriced.

Sell it for $20 bucks paperback on Book of the Month and you will find a real market for it.

Case in point: around 1970, the Oxford English Dictionary reduced its full 20 volume dictionary by 400% (four fine-print pages per page) and made the entire OED available to the general reader in a handsome 4,000 page, 2 volume slip case with magnifying glass.

At $120 on Book of the Month, this "compact OED" was one of the great publishing bargains ever. I don't know whether OED made money on this bargain. But look at OED today, charging a $295 ANNUALLY for mere access to their online edition! Sickening! So much for the "general diffusion of knowledge" (not my phrase, Jefferson's).

The aim of this volume is to offer an updated account of the transcendental character of phenomenology. The main question concerns the sense and relevance of transcendental philosophy today: What can such philosophy contribute to contemporary inquiries and debates after the many reasoned attacks against its idealistic, aprioristic, absolutist and universalistic tendencies―voiced most vigorously by late 20th century postmodern thinkers―as well as attacks against its apparently circular arguments and suspicious metaphysics launched by many analytic philosophers? Contributors also aim to clarify the relations of transcendental phenomenology to other post-Kantian philosophies, most importantly to pragmatism and Wittgenstein’s philosophical investigations. Finally, the volume offers a set of reflections on the meaning of post-transcendental phenomenology.

Sara Heinämaa is a professor of philosophy in the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy at the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, and a senior lecturer in the Department of Philosophy, History, Culture and Art Studies at the University of Helsinki, Finland.

Mirja Hartimo is a docent of theoretical philosophy at the University of Helsinki and University of Tampere, Finland.

Timo Miettinen is a postdoctoral researcher in the Network for European Studies, Department of Political and Economic Studies at the University of Helsinki, Finland.
