Great detail

Too much to read -- I forgot I had only rented it -- so skimming a lot. Very thorough and well-argued. I hope I have it long enough to see whether I fully agree with Chapter 8.

I enjoyed the intro but that was it

I enjoyed the intro but that was it. It was too technical for my interest because it was like endless lists of romanized pronunciations with special markings. For anyone who has learned something like how to pronounce pinyin, it is a similar effort to even read the book.
It's also not formatted very well for kindle, which adds to the difficulty. Not a
Bad book but not what I was looking for.
